Workshop Instructor
Maiko Kanchiku
Director of the Music City Council of Fukuoka and director of the Japan Gospel Music Association.
Influenced by music-loving parents, she began piano as a child and played percussion in school wind bands. After discovering gospel through the film Sister Act in high school, she began vocal training.
From age 18, she performed at clubs and live venues in the female vocal units SISTA and CARRIE BRAND SHOW while assisting at a gospel school for about six years.
As a solo singer, she has broadened her activities through appearances including independent productions by GEKIDAN AFRICA and a duet at Toshiki Kadomatsu’s 2018 Fukuoka performance BREATH from THE SEASON.
As a gospel director, she teaches Sounds of DAZ, Ekishoren Choir, and CAMPARI. She now travels to New York and San Francisco once or twice a year, joining local-choir workshops and holding performances while working toward more international activity.
