The 2nd FUKUOKA MUSIC SUMMIT Announced
The Fukuoka Music City Council will hold FUKUOKA MUSIC SUMMIT at the Fukuoka International Congress Center on Tuesday, February 11, to promote Fukuoka’s music scene. Returning after two years, the festival includes a talk with experts from Japan and abroad on why cities need music, live sessions by special guests connected to Fukuoka, and a meetup for artists and music professionals. Bayside Place Hakata, creator of the new port culture BAY POP, is the main sponsor.

UK consultancy Sound Diplomacy has advised music-related urban policy in 130 cities across 40 countries and has organized the international Music Cities Convention since 2015. Jett Glozier, its Global Head of Infrastructure and Projects, joins the summit to discuss how Fukuoka can build a sustainable ecosystem that creates economic impact and social value through music.

Live Session: Shutoku Mukai × Yutaka Matsushige — Jigoku no Shogyo Mujo: Hakata Edition
Actor Yutaka Matsushige, currently attracting attention for The Solitary Gourmet film, returns after appearing at the previous summit. At FM Yokohama and Billboard Live Yokohama’s Jigoku no Shogyo Mujo event in November, he joined ZAZEN BOYS’ Shutoku Mukai for a session of words and sound. They reunite for a dream collaboration in a Hakata edition rooted in their shared hometown.

Before the live session, photos and video will review the Fukuoka Music City Council’s achievements since its establishment in 2021. The program also includes a performance by singer-songwriter Paulette, Grand Prix winner in last July’s young-talent development program “Music Summer Camp Fukuoka.”
Paulette Profile
Paulette is a singer-songwriter from Fukuoka Prefecture with a Japanese father and American mother. Influenced by her jazz-drummer father, she grew up surrounded by music and played various rhythm instruments as a student. She released her first mini-album, Beautiful Life, in October 2024.

The event partners with the Fukuoka Directive Council to encourage exchange across industries.

Jett Glozier
Sound Diplomacy Head of Business Development / Global Head of Infrastructure
Jett Glozier specializes in the comprehensive planning, evaluation, and feasibility of projects, especially music venues, arenas, cultural hubs, and placemaking. His work spans business planning and cultural policy, with an emphasis on strategies for launching multipurpose facilities, creative studios, festivals, and events. He has led successful cultural projects in major US cities, London, Manchester, Sydney, Singapore, and elsewhere, including cultural strategy for the Earls Court Development Company master plan and executive consulting for the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.
Takahiro Saito
Representative Director, Japan Nighttime Economy Association
Attorney, Atsumi & Sakai. Alongside legal consulting, Takahiro Saito supports new market creation through regulatory compliance and rulemaking. He led reforms to laws regulating nighttime entertainment and later supported nighttime-economy policy as chair of the private advisory board to the Parliamentary League for the Nighttime Economy. He authored Rulemaking: A Method for Changing Society Practiced Through the Nighttime Economy.
Kenjiro Fukamachi
Director, Fukuoka Music City Council / Music Producer
Born in Fukuoka in 1961, Fukamachi formed the pioneering neo-acoustic band Nellthorpe at university. After returning to Fukuoka, he produced events at Solaria Plaza and appeared widely on television and radio. Since 1998, he has co-produced and emceed Sunset Live in Itoshima and serves as general producer of Fukuoka Music Month. He is also a professor in the Entertainment Business program at Japan University of Economics and a director of both the Fukuoka City Foundation for Arts and Cultural Promotion and the Fukuoka Music City Council.

Shutoku Mukai
Born in Saga Prefecture in 1973, Shutoku Mukai formed NUMBER GIRL in Hakata, Fukuoka, in 1995 and made a major-label debut with “Tomei Shojo” in 1999. After the band dissolved in 2002, he formed ZAZEN BOYS in 2003 and works from his own MATSURI STUDIO while also performing solo as Shutoku Mukai Acoustic & Electric. He won an Outstanding Music Award at the 33rd Japan Academy Film Prize for The Shonen Merikensack, formed KIMONOS with LEO Imai in 2010, reunited NUMBER GIRL from 2019 to 2022, and released ZAZEN BOYS’ sixth album Land in 2024, ranked No. 1 in Music Magazine’s Japanese rock albums of the year.
Yutaka Matsushige
Born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1963, Yutaka Matsushige joined Ninagawa Studio after graduating from Meiji University. He won Best Supporting Actor at the 62nd Mainichi Film Awards for Talk, Talk, Talk in 2007 and has worked widely across television, film, and theater. His first starring television role came in The Solitary Gourmet in 2012, which reached ten seasons by 2022. Other major credits include Unnatural, Today’s Nekoyama-san, What Happened to Our Nest Egg!?, What Will You Do, Ieyasu?, Bloody Monday, The Detective Is in the Bar, Outrage, and Byplayers. He hosts FM Yokohama’s Midnight Music Restaurant, published his first book in 2020, and stars in The Solitary Gourmet film.
