What MCCF is
MCCF is a voluntary council founded in April 2021 to help Fukuoka become one of Japan and Asia’s leading music cities.
Fukuoka has nurtured a wide range of musical activity across artists, citizens, and organizations. MCCF connects people and organizations involved in music so that music can be used and developed across related industries, tourism, and city-making.

Fukuoka has produced many musicians and has long been a city of music. Music enriches people’s lives and makes a city more compelling. Cities such as Vienna, Salzburg, Nantes, and New Orleans attract people through music, and we want Fukuoka to become even more attractive through music as well.
Through a range of music-related projects and communication, MCCF will further activate Fukuoka as a music city. We sincerely ask for the broad support and cooperation of everyone involved, including residents and businesses.

Beat goes on. Fukuoka’s music does not stop.
In the 1970s, Fukuoka was called Japan’s Liverpool as artists emerging from the live cafe Showa in Tenjin made major debuts one after another and swept through the Japanese pop music scene.
For roughly half a century since then, Fukuoka has continued to produce many artists. This is a unique culture that few other cities can claim. From Hakata Dontaku to Fukuoka Music Month, music has filled the city, and Fukuoka is a place that loves music and is loved by music.
MCCF was born to deepen this defining feature of Fukuoka, crossing genre and field boundaries to explore, discuss, and execute new possibilities. We aim for a music city where innovation grows from tradition and diverse musical cultures mix through a free and tolerant sensibility. Beat goes on. Fukuoka’s music does not stop.

Fukuoka is a music city where citizens and organizations have nurtured diverse musical activity and where artists across many genres continue to emerge. Music is one of the city’s attractions.
Fukuoka’s music industry has also faced severe conditions due to COVID-19 and has had to change long-standing approaches. I am sincerely grateful that the Music City Council of Fukuoka was established through the efforts of music professionals active in the city.
Through MCCF’s new challenges across musical genres, the City of Fukuoka will work with everyone with full commitment so that the city’s music-related industries can regain energy.

A CURATED MEDIA PLATFORM BY MCCFOTOJIRO is MCCF’s music-focused web media platform for Fukuoka. It publishes the latest information from the local music scene and maintains public database information for artists and related music activity.
THE NAME
The name comes from Kawakami Otojiro, a founding figure in Hakata entertainment, and carries forward an innovative spirit rooted in Fukuoka.

Fukuoka Street Piano
Piano in the city
A public-space piano program where anyone passing through the city can play, creating small encounters with music in everyday urban scenery.
Please contact us if you are considering installing a piano at a facility or public space.
At the Bayside Street Piano, artists registered in the OTOJIRO Database can use the street piano for gifting-based live performances, filming, streaming, and sessions with vocals or other instruments.
Advance reservation is required.
