A Complete Guide to the 2025 Nominees and Ceremony Highlights of Taiwan’s Most Important Indie Music Awards, the Golden Indie Music Awards!

GIMA 2025 to Be Held on November 1

The Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA), Taiwan’s most important indie music awards, will hold its ceremony on Saturday, November 1 at theTaipei Music Center.

This year’s special guests are Silica Gel, one of Korea’s most acclaimed indie rock bands, and popular Thai rapper AUTTA.
The nominees for the closely watched Best Asian Creative Artist Award include an impressive lineup such as Indonesian band .Feast and Australia-based Japanese musician ELLE SHIMADA, demonstrating the diversity of Asia’s indie music scene.

The 16th Golden Indie Music Awards received 4,052 submissions from across Asia, the largest number in the awards’ history. Jury chair HuTing Chen, vocalist of Tizzy Bac, said, “This year, the jury placed particular emphasis on the narrative of each work—the message creators want to convey to listeners—and its emotional significance.”

Hip-hop artist Hsien Ching received a total of seven nominations for her two albums, If we can be happy happy every day, who wants to be sad:＊ and If we can be happy happy every day, who wants to be sad:)). Her distinctive female perspective and unconventional choice of words reveal remarkable creative energy.

Meanwhile, Lilium, who fuse Taiwanese, traditional instruments, and rock, earned six nominations for their album Everything Will Go Wonderfully, once again highlighting how Taiwanese music continues to explore the intersection of local culture and contemporary expression.

A new generation of accomplished creators—including Enno Cheng, Modern Cinema Master, YELLOW, The Dinosaur’s Skin, and Andr—also appear among the nominees, and their work is attracting considerable attention.

In the area of international exchange, the Best Asian Creative Artist Award, which encourages creators from Asian countries outside Taiwan, received 60 entries from Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and elsewhere. The response demonstrates both the vitality of Asia’s indie music and the strong demand for exchange across borders.

Other nominees include popular Indonesian band .Feast, who have long confronted social and political issues through intense rock; ELLE SHIMADA, a Tokyo-raised, Melbourne-based experimental artist, violinist, and producer; Korean electro-punk duo Fat Hamster and KANG New; rising Korean R&B and neo-soul artist Jacqui; and Indonesian band Lomba Sihir.

In addition to these much-discussed nominees, seven Asian acts whose courageous spirit embodies this year’s theme, “Brave,” have been specially invited and will deliver outstanding performances.

A cross-border collaborative performance is also planned by 2024 Best Asian Creative Artist Award winner Silica Gel, Taiwanese indie folk band The Chairs, and rising Thai rapper AUTTA.
