Born in Iizuka, Fukuoka Prefecture, Fumiya Matsunobu graduated from the Department of Music in the Faculty of Music at Kurashiki Sakuyo University. He studied trumpet with Yuji Shibata, Koji Motomura, and Mineo Sugiki. He is a full member of STEP Wind Symphony.
