FMM2023 — Fukuoka Becomes a Music Festival Again This September
Fukuoka Music Month Celebrates Its Tenth Year!
Five music events—Sunset Live, Nakasu Jazz, the Kyushu Gospel Festival in Hakata, Fukuoka Asian Picks, and Music City Tenjin—happened to converge in September. Recognizing this as a symbol of Music City Fukuoka, their organizers joined with support from Fukuoka City to launch Fukuoka Music Month in 2014 as a music-led city-building initiative. BAYSIDE FESTIVAL at Bayside Place Hakata joined in 2022. By working together, the events can promote Music City Fukuoka in Japan and abroad. Now in its tenth year, the circle of exchange through music continues to expand as a new Fukuoka festival following Hakata Gion Yamakasa and Hakata Dontaku.

Fukuoka Music Month is finally moving in earnest. Beginning with Sunset Live, September fills Fukuoka with four festivals: Nakasu Jazz, the Kyushu Gospel Festival, and Bayside Festival, launched last year. This is a celebration symbolizing Music City Fukuoka. A London music professional once discovered this phenomenon, which Fukuoka takes almost for granted, and called it “crazy.” Fukuoka’s passionate spirit crosses borders with ease.
