Fourth Music Project Launched by a Bar: Qnel × CITADEL MUSIC Collaboration EP Tales Of Drunken Night Released on Streaming
As the fourth project from CITEDEL MUSIC, the music label created by Fukuoka cocktail bar CITADEL and operated by FUNKtion Inc., the EP Tales Of Drunken Night will be released through streaming services at midnight on Apr. 3, 2024.
The project is a collaboration with Qnel, the solo project of former LUCKY TAPES guitarist Kensuke Takahashi, and comprises three songs plus an interlude built around stories of alcohol.
Qnel
Qnel is the solo project of Kensuke Takahashi. His work on the track production for “Kyakuhon” from LUCKY TAPES’ album BITTER! and his remix of “NO AID” led him to begin working in earnest as Qnel. He released his debut album Siesta in April 2023 with key figures from the music scene including HIROSHI of FIVE NEW OLD, Atsushi Inoue of showmore, and Jun Miyakawa of LAGHEADS. His live performances, including a two-man show with Shota Aratani of yonawo and a solo concert, have earned high acclaim. As a guitarist, he has contributed to recordings by artists including Superfly and NOA and provided live support for saccharin and UEBO. He continues to broaden his activities as a producer and arranger for artists including Yui Nishio and peeto.
CITADEL MUSIC
CITADEL MUSIC is the music project and label created by Fukuoka cocktail bar CITADEL. It partners with artists connected to Fukuoka and CITADEL to release original music and hold events. Launched in 2021, it has previously released collaborations with Fukuoka-based track maker NARISK, leading Fukuoka collective CCS records., and Bar Nayuta, an Osaka cocktail bar attracting international attention. Opened in April 2017, CITADEL is a distinctive cocktail bar with more than 100 house-made liqueurs, craft cocktails made using diverse techniques and creativity, and a bottle shop selling original cocktails. It is also known as one of Fukuoka’s early pioneers of coffee cocktails. Through the bar and ventures such as CITADEL BEVERAGES, a beverage brand that develops and sells bottled cocktails and other original products, CITADEL pursues new value and lifestyles and shares them with the world from Fukuoka.
At a time when young people are increasingly turning away from alcohol and sober curiosity has become widely discussed, this project comes from a bar-operated music label that still believes stories born from drinking can enrich life, however slightly. Qnel and the company’s representative also met at CITADEL. Born from a connection forged by alcohol and music, every track on the EP tells a story involving a drink.
The jacket was designed by Akira Uesugi, whose many works include merchandise for Tempalay.
A release party for Tales Of Drunken Night will be held during CITADEL FEST.2024, the company’s music-and-cocktail event, on Apr. 6, 2024.
