Nov. 9, 2024 (Sat.): Magic, Drums & Love Fukuoka 2-Day Tour “KEEP ROMANCE ALIVE”

Tokyo rock ’n’ roll band Magic, Drums & Love—also known as Majidora—returns to Fukuoka for the first time in seven years!
Touring in support of the new single “KE OLA JIVE,” the band will play livehouse & club PEACE in Arato on Nov. 9 (Sat.) and Udon-dokoro Tanukian in Nogata on Nov. 10 (Sun.). The Nov. 10 show is sold out.

One day, Majidora’s music suddenly began playing on dance floors across Tokyo. At first, whenever I played it, someone would always rush to the booth and ask, “Who is this?” If foreigners were dancing, they wanted to know almost every time. True to the “Magic” in their name, their music has a mysterious appeal that goes beyond being merely catchy. I think the clue is in the words they say the moment every show begins: “We are the Tokyo rock ’n’ roll band Magic, Drums & Love.” Yes—they are a band that plays soul music with a rock ’n’ roll spirit!

Atsushi Sekiguchi (Tokyo)
Editor of the STAPLES mix-CD series.
He currently works at his own pace, including semi-regular appearances at Namida no Dosukoi All Stars, held on the fourth Saturday of every month at LIVEHAUS in Shimokitazawa.
While managing the former Harajuku shops Attractions and Attractions REC., he served for seven years as resident DJ at the record-hop event Buzzin’ at Cave Be in Shimokitazawa. He later joined the popular Crazee Gold Mine party at Shibuya’s Organ Bar from its launch; it is now held on the first Sunday of every month. In recent years, he has also supported Japan shows by KEB DARGE, LIAM LARGE of JAZZMAN RECORDS, and others.
Centering on sounds from the 1950s and 1960s under the theme “primitive and mysterious,” his selections cross conventional boundaries. His own STAPLES Vol. 1 was the world’s first mix CD built around the theme of jive and sold out immediately. He followed it with Vols. 2 and 3, centered on exotica, popcorn, and boogaloo.
