Phew, frontwoman of legendary art-punk band Aunt Sally and an internationally acclaimed electronic musician, returns to Fukuoka after several years.
Phew appears at the third anniversary of Fukuoka experimental-noise event hertz.
Beginning with a collaborative single with Ryuichi Sakamoto and her first solo album Phew, made with CAN members Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit, she has developed extremely precise music carrying avant-rock’s solid, discordant atmosphere and a distinctive ferocity.
Phew has earned worldwide recognition through works combining voice and electronics and appearances at major events including rural and MUTEK. She joins Kyushu-based artists presenting delicate yet dynamic avant-garde sound.

A founding member of legendary art-punk band Aunt Sally, Phew remains an evolving pioneer through collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto, Conny Plank, CAN’s Holger Czukay, DAF’s Chrislo Haas, Ana da Silva of The Raincoats, and Seiichi Yamamoto. Her literary, intelligent songs and sound—sometimes deep and stagnant, sometimes exploding with force—make Phew a genre of her own. She cuts psychedelically through techno, noise, drone, experimental music, and every form that peers beneath the surface.
